The Tinsley Towers
Communist Student Carey Davies has written this poem about the defunct cooling towers by the Tinsley Viaduct which greet people arriving in Sheffield. Proposals to turn the towers into an art installation or a theme park have been rejected and they are now scheduled for demolition.
the tinsley towers
i could watch them for hours
magnificent and dour
we could fill them with flowers
like two big plantpots
(some artless cynics are going to
blow them up.
but it doesn’t matter –
the towers are, and always will be,
ours.)
great poem
It made my mother-in-law cry.
