CS member Dani Thomas has produced this haunting musical piece inspired by the coal mines of Wales. The track can be streamed and downloaded below. Dani recommends listening with headphones for the best effect. In this article (link) he explores Futurism and more fully explains the background of the track.
This piece was created primarily from sounds I collected from the ‘Big Pit’ Heritage Site in Blaenavon. My intention was to appeal to the listener’s most primal reactions and evoke the raw power of industrial noise, but also to instill the work with a feeling of mounting human spirit and mass movement that is initially suppressed but ultimately allowed to break forth.
With thanks to the Big Pit Coal Museum, Blaenavon Heritage Site and The Blaenavon Male Voice Choir.
Brass Players:-
Trumpet- Ali Kidd
Horn- Simon Jones
Trombone- Gareth Robinson
Tuba- Rob Graham White
Interesting, but i would still rather listen to coal chamber instead of coal face. Maybe I’m too much of a philistine?
Well, Chris, one is for 12 year olds to annoy their parents with and the other is a concept piece exploring some interesting topics and with very good production. Kinda hard to compare really…
Im not disputing that it explores something and is interesting, just not my cup of tea.
Should be made the welcoming theme at ‘Big Pit’. Excellent work boy bach. The article introducing it was almost as good – we should get it up online ASAP
