Manchester CS has kicked off the ‘Revolutionary France’ series with a discussion on the lessons of the Paris Commune of 1871, after reading chapter 5 of Karl Marx’s ‘Civil War in France’. Around 20 attended and debated the National Question, a programme to win the Peasantry, the revolutionary party and why such history is not taught in schools. Next week we are discussing the student and worker uprising in 1968, Mark Harrison from the Commune group will be speaking. And we have put back our French Resistance meeting as our speaker Matthew Cobb is only able to speak on the 24 November. We will be reading an article from issue 9 of the Permanent Revolution journal called ‘France 1968: Barricades close streets but show the way’ you can access it here: http://www.permanentrevolution.net/entry/2356. We will also be having a quick introduction on understanding Class in capitalist society.
