Amendment to the ‘Executive and its Role’
Submitted by Cat Rylance and Chris Strafford

From Conference Notes

To delete point 3.

This is not true the constitution already outlines a mechanism for CS executive to be recalled.

From Conference Believes, edit point:

1) CS requires both organisational and political leadership

And to delete point 4

Point 4 would then contradict amended point 1.

From Conference Mandates the Executive

Delete point 4.

From conference resolves, edit:

1) That executive decisions on policy such as left unity calls should be discussed in branch and on the e-list before being published.

2) That the consistent failure to produce reports and attend executive meetings without good reason is grounds for recall of Executive members.

3) That one branch or one third of the membership can call a national meeting where removing the executive or one member of the executive can be discussed and voted on.

4) That members can only be suspended by the executive pending expulsion by a national meeting.

Amendment to ‘Producing Communist Student’

Submitted by Ben Lewis

Replace with:

Conference Notes:

1) That the editorship of Communist Student and the CS website is conducted under the guidance of the CS executive. The executive as a whole, and any of its individual members, can be recalled at any time.

2) That producing our publication and maintaining our website necessitates political editing and making decisions about the focus/target audience/emphasis of our articles and reports.

3) That this decision-making should be accountable to the membership as a whole.

Conference Believes:

1)      That CS has a good record of publishing differences within the organisation – particularly on the question of fascism and the state

2)      That the executive should strive to ensure that the CS publication and website reflect some of the differences that CS comrades express on the e-list and in their branch meetings

Conference Resolves:

1) To mandate the incoming executive to choose from its members an editor of the publication and an editor of the website.

2) That in planning and commissioning articles, features and reports these editors look to encourage as many comrades as possible and take into account some of the discussions on the e-list or at branch level.

3) That, as part of its regular reporting, the executive gives a clear outline of what materials it is looking to produce, seeking to engage comrades in the process of production.

4) That there be  thorough feedback from branches on issues of CS, articles on the website etc.

5)That in order to educate ourselves, the executive look to produce a ‘Discussion’ bulletin that summarises some of the discussions we have had in our short history – this will serve to educate comrades new and old. This bulletin should aim to be produced in time for the new term – under the guidance of the CS executive.

Amendment to ‘Communists and liberation’

Submitted by Ben Lewis

AFTER….

“The Education System, the fight for women’s liberation, against racism, fascism, homophobia, transphobia and chauvinism, and the struggle against war and for ecological sustainability are just as much working class questions as pay and trade union rights. We fight for free abortion on demand, free 24-hour childcare, and the decriminalisation of sex work. In order to be effective in their struggle against their oppression both within society and within the working class, women, LGBT, black and disabled people may at times need to organise autonomously.

INSERT:

“They should have full democratic rights to do so and to openly express any differences. However, in order to avoid sectionalism and the ghettoisation of struggles, communists stress the need for working class unity around a political programme that opposes every manifestation of oppression. This ensures that the working class takes the lead in these struggles to become a hegemonic class fit to rule – “tribunes of the oppressed” in the struggle for complete emancipation for all.”
