Over time capitalism has repressed freedom of expression in an effort to maintain
control over society. In effect capitalism is intolerant of anything that might challenge
it. This conference is seeking to explore how capitalism functions, censorship which
exists within capitalist societies, and its consequences.
Suggested topics include:
- The importance of freedom of expression and what it has meant over time.
- Orwellian thought
- Repressive thought
- The limits of academic freedom in the current epoch
- Marxism and freedom of speech
- Stalinism and the nature of control on freedom of expression
- The question of socialism and freedom of speech
- The role of freedom of speech in modern capitalism
- Freedom of speech and forms of protest
